New US citizen wins lottery same day he is sworn

who immigrated from Kenya to the US found riches on the very day he
became an American. If that is not The American Way - than

Soon after Moses Bittok, 40, of West Des Moines, took the oath of
citizenship last Friday, he learned that he had a $1.89 million winning
ticket from the Iowa Lottery's Hot Lotto game in his hands.
As Bittok cashed in his ticket yesterday morning he said this
type of thing could only happen in America. We agree.
He reportedly took the oath of citizenship at the federal building
in Des Moines. That same afternoon, he went shopping with his family. They
just so happened to stop in at the gas station he used to work part
time for extra money at. There, he bought the winning ticket to the
Iowa lottery.
While his wife screamed in pure enjoyment, he remained calm.
Bittok, an officer at the Iowa Correctional Institute for
Women in Mitchellville, said he has no detailed plans on how to
spend his new windfall, only that a college fund for his 4-year-old
daughter was at the top of his list.
He chose to receive his winnings in 25 annual payments of
about $52,920 after taxes.
He came to the US to go to college in Minnesota. He then moved to
Iowa to work at the women's prison.
Hot Lotto tickets are sold in Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, New
Hampshire, South Dakota and West Virginia.
